Florin Estefan

Baritone Florin Estefan began studying singing and stage art at the Music Faculty in Oradea under the guidance of Professors Alexandru Farcaș and Gheorghe Mogoșan. He continued his vocal training with Professor Dennis O’Neill at the International Academy of Voice in Cardiff, with Professors Mariana Nicolesco and Rolando Panerai in Florence, and with other renowned vocal coaches such as Sherill Miles, Ileana Cotrubaș, Dame Ann Murray, Jane Eaglen, Bernd Weikl, Elisabeth Connell, Carol Vaness, Corneliu Murgu, and Viorica Cortez.

He participated in numerous vocal interpretation competitions during his student years and afterward, receiving awards such as the First Prize at the National “Sabin Drăgoi” Competition in Timișoara, the Special Jury Prize at the International Lied Competition “Nicolae Bretan” in Cluj-Napoca, the Special Prize for the Youngest Participant (2001) and First Prize (2003) at the International “Hariclea Darclee” Competition in Brăila, Third Prize (2003) and Excellence Award (2004) at the National Lied Festival in Brașov, Grand Prize at the International Lied Festival “Ionel Perlea” in Slobozia, and Second Prize at the International Canto Competition “Arta Florescu” in Bucharest.

His repertoire includes roles such as Count Robinson in D. Cimarosa’s “The Secret Marriage”, Malatesta in “Don Pasquale”, Belcore in “The Elixir of Love”, Enrico in G. Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor”, Don Giovanni, Antonio in W.A. Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”, Marcello in “La Bohème”, Sharpless in G. Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”, and Germont in G. Verdi’s “La Traviata”.

He has also performed as a soloist in the world premiere of the Complete Lieder Works by G. Enescu in Japan (2005), in the modern opera “The Boss” by A. Sienberger, and played the lead role in the film “Transylvania” directed by Tony Gatlif and presented at the Cannes International Film Festival (2006).

Florin Estefan has also tackled vocal-symphonic repertoire, being invited to perform the solo parts in L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, J. Haydn’s Cecilian Mass, G. Rossini’s Solemn Mass, and C. Orff’s Carmina Burana.

Currently, Florin Estefan serves as the General Manager of the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca.
